Leadership qualities and Relationship Marketing are necessary in any industry

Leadership qualities are especially necessary if you want to build or lead a team in Network Marketing.

The Network Marketing industry is a 180 billion dollar industry. More millionaires have been created in this industry then any other industry bar none.

I can’t even relate to you how excited I am about this topic.

Relationship Marketing builds leadership qualities

You see, leadership in Network Marketing and Direct sales is a sense of mentorship. Meaning that you need to be willing to see potential and pour time and energy into the building up of relationships.

Network Marketing and or Direct Sales is a great place to develop leadership skills. These skills not only change relationships within your team but more importantly improve your relationship with yourself.

Leadership (mentorship) starts, within yourself…

I had the discrete pleasure of interviewing the best of the best in the MLM industry. This couple are Network Marketing veterans of 50 years and are in the top echelon of this industry. Their leadership is well known.

Larry and Taylor Thompson exude powerful leadership qualities. Learn how they have been successful in teaching these qualities. Being examples of everything they mentor others to do in this industry is key.

Watch this quick interview here…

What is Mentorship?

Well, I can’t think of any one else better to explain this than those who walk the walk and talk the talk Larry & Taylor Thompson.

Here’s what they had to say;

“Leadership is taught by being an example.” Lead by ‘doing’ what you tell others to do. Relay your experiences and story of where you have walked and then teach to trust the process.”

Quite frankly, leadership is built upon relationships by strengthening the human connection.

To begin with, there are 2 types of Relationships;

  1. Relationships with others and;
  2. Relationship with yourself

Probably the most important would be #2 “Relationship with self, and here’s why…

A lot of times in sales and marketing, we lose track of who we are and focus on the relationship with others instead of the relationship with ourselves. For this reason, our focus becomes all about the sale and not what the person really needs. The focus should be, how we can help them with the service or product we sell.

What is Relationship with self?

Indeed, it’s about how you react to life circumstances. How you respond to someone in how they treat you, is an indicator of how you deal with your own life circumstances. Consequently, this determines the impact you make on a relationship whether good or bad.

I’ve also watched a transformation in the Network Marketing industry. One of the things I love most about MLM and direct sales is also a challenge within the industry. This would be “Recognition.”

Mastering recognition for such things as;

  • Rank advancements
  • Team building
  • Achieving new levels
  • Rewarding the right activities etc;

Believe me I totally understand the importance of celebrating and recognition.

But here’s the challenge…

In contrast to recognition “People think they have arrived” and they don’t understand it’s merely another beginning.

Acquiring leadership qualities is about knowing that the finish line is really a new starting line. Remember also that a leader learns from others above and below them. Leaders are always teachable, wannabe students.

Reality tells us, it’s about the journey, not the destination. Really in life, we never arrive. Hopefully, we are always trying to achieve more, learn more, and be more. Never forget where you came from and the struggle that was experienced to get there. Sharing your story and experience is the leadership people in sales desire to learn about.  So be you, not canned!

Duplication in Network Marketing

Most importantly, it’s about giving enough information to a new team member that’s fun and simple. It feels magical as if they can get started immediately and be successful. Blending and relating to your audience is how to be an effective leader.

Understand that having a constant need for learning is what makes a leader. Also, respect is a sense of leadership that has been somewhat lost. Others want to be appreciated and respected  in the way you would want to be, this is so imperative. There is always someone who will be watching what you’re doing, versus what you are saying.

Hence “People don’t do what you say, they do what you do.”

Folks, can this be any more clear? It’s so easy to get caught up in the training mode that we forget the doing mode. Duplication is about sticking with a strategic system, which creates the habit of doing. Effective leadership will exude these traits in the Network Marketing business model.

Finally, leadership qualities are created by 5 basic fundamentals;

  1. Responsibility
  2. Determination
  3. Motivation
  4. Discipline
  5. Functional

For further detail on these 5 fundamentals, watch the interview above with Larry and Taylor Thompson you’ll be glad you did!
